BMD Celebrates 5 Years

March 2018 marked the 5-year anniversary of Brooke Moorhead Design. While I cannot quite believe how quickly it went, it also feels like a good chunk of time, and certainly a major personal and professional milestone. Many of you know my history. California to NYC transplant, journey from Wachtell, Lipton to Sanford Bernstein and finally to interior design school at New York School of Interior Design. Lifelong influence from mother and grandmother (both designers, artists, shop owners, and live-and-breathe design enthusiasts), and, then, to start my journey as a designer, I worked at my mother’s firm for five years, helping with likely some of the largest projects being done in the country at the time.

Connecticut Whimsy

I’m very excited to share with you the official “unveiling” of the photos of this Greenwich, Connecticut project we completed early last year. The outcome was unlike any project I’ve done in the past, and it was inspiring to have a result as expressive as this one. My client has a wonderful whimsy about her, and she is fearless when it comes to taking risks with art and design. Despite the blessing of having unique existing pieces to work with and a homeowner who was very “game”, integrating such art and antiques into a scheme that ultimately looks unified can also prove challenging.

New Year, New Art?

Happy New Year! Art can make or break a space. It is intimately linked with the success of the design of an interior, but it is also something so separate, so personal, that it becomes a thing of itself. So where do we start with art? Where do we finish? How do we reconcile the need for art to relate …

Encore!

Encore, Tribeca It’s the most wonderful thing to have longtime clients. I was beyond thrilled to have the opportunity this year to help past clients make some alterations to their home, which I had originally helped them complete in 2013. The clients originally came to me with the idea to finish what we had started: really make the entry hall …

Renovation Watch

It’s happening: my family and I are decamping from the once uber-cool TriBeCa neighborhood to to the Upper East Side. But not before we complete a gut renovation… and for you New Yorkers, you know first hand, or have at least heard of, the “intricacies” of renovating in a pre-war NYC building. Let’s just say, it’s a long road, best …

Street Style

Interior Sophisticate, the Fashion Issue. OK, yes, I am aware of the very real possibility of embarrassing myself greatly with the above picture/ confession of what really happens when packing for a trip/ choosing outfits. Am I really going to attempt to give fashion advice? Well, no. But sort of. I think of interior design as similar to fashion, in …

Curating the Clutter

I feel best in a space when it has a sense of calm: a serene, peaceful feeling. No surprise, then, that this “serene” feeling evaporates when little wonders grace us, like mismatched toddler’s toys on the floor, sports equipment under the bed, or no place to put the mail or the vacuum cleaner. Having an efficient, clutter-free home goes hand …

Transformations

In the season of renewal… As we begin to reflect on the year I take a look back at some of the most dramatic transformations of 2016. Hampton Classic This winter I gave a Hamptons home a face lift. The living room required only some paint, floor refinishing, and new lighting to elevate its look. We are still working on …
